Garrett grew up in Harleton, Texas and attended public schools there from kindergarten forward. After graduating at the top of his class, Garrett received a scholarship to attend John Brown University where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree, magna cum laude. In 2005 Garrett received the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal honors fraternity and Equal Justice Works – an organization dedicated to providing access to justice for the poorest and most vulnerable members of society. Garrett was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2005 and The State Bar of Arkansas in 2006. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas and the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas. An East Texas native, Garrett W. Wilson decided at a young age “to be a lawyer who would help the people I came from, the working class men and women of East Texas.” Garrett now dedicates his practice entirely to helping regular people who are victims of corporations and insurance companies. He has obtained large verdicts and settlements in difficult cases involving oil field injury, unsafe products, wrongful death, trucking and auto collisions, traumatic brain injury and breaches of fiduciary duty. Becoming an Oil Field Lawyer Garrett grew up working in the East Texas oil fields. This experience gives him unique understanding of drilling operations and the root causes of how oil field injuries occur. As a young “roughneck” Garrett actually performed many of the tasks that can cause catastrophic injury and death when unsafe methods are used. He understands the terminology, equipment and methods. He also understands the oilfield culture which, in many cases, puts profits ahead of safety. When an injury happens Garrett knows that the victims and families need a tireless advocate who has the understanding and skill necessary to develop the case. These cases are both factually and legally complex and success often hinges on the diligence and knowledge of the attorney handling the file. Garrett has represented individuals against many major oil and gas companies including Exxon, Halliburton, and Petrohawk. Trucking and Serious Car Wreck Cases
Garrett also prosecutes cases involving serious automobile collisions and cases against trucking companies. Garrett realizes there is a need to meet personally with every new client and spend whatever time is necessary to understand the facts surrounding the collision and to identify what type of medical care is needed. Garrett learned this lesson after only being licensed for a few months. He was asked to help a senior lawyer at his former firm with a case that appeared to be a minor injury car wreck. After spending several hours meeting with the client and interviewing her family, Garrett became convinced that she suffered from an undiagnosed “mild” traumatic head injury. The insurance company did not believe the client was injured and only offered a small amount to settle the case. Garrett spent hundreds of hours reading medical textbooks about the causes and effects of brain injury and consulting with leading experts to prove the case. The case went to trial and the jury awarded a verdict of more than $1.5 million dollars – one of the largest civil jury verdicts in the history of the county. Some of Garrett’s results include: - $1.5 million verdict for victim of an auto collision - $900,000 settlement for victim of an auto collision - Confidential settlement for victim of medical negligence - $900,000 settlement for victim of 18 wheeler wreck - $735,000 settlement for victim of a defective product - $ 650,000 settlement for an injured worker - $500,000 settlement for breach of partnership agreement Garrett is married and he and his wife have three wonderful children. He is active in community affairs, serving as a member of various administrative boards including the Harleton ISD Board of Trustees. He and his family attend church at Calvary Christian in Longview. Garrett enjoys coaching his children in various sports, reading history, and camping. Admitted:
